***sold*** Antique West Anatolian Kula village rug of unusual prayer design. www.knightsantiques.co.uk
Size: 5ft 4in x 3ft 10in (162 x 116cm).
2nd half 19th century.
The town of Kula has been producing rugs since the 17th century, they have unique designs and colour palettes. This rug is of a prayer design and has an outstanding border design of flowering shrubs. The prayer design is of a column type with a flowering tree running through the central field. The top part of the rug above the mihrab is filled with small flowering shrubs on a light indigo blue ground.
The rug is in fair condition with wear; heavy in places with some foundation showing. The pile is generally low. There are slight wear and losses to the sides and ends, the rug is in original condition with no repairs.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
The rug is suitable for light domestic use but would make a superb wall hanging.
Ref: h-429.
