Size: 3ft 9in x 2ft 5in (115 x 73cm).
2nd half 19th century.
This good example of a Yomut Turkmen asmalyk has an ivory ground with a lattice design which contains the erre gul; the range of colours including a clear blue and madder red is outstanding. The ivory ground border is very well drawn and contains a classic Yomut bird design
.
Asmalyk were used to decorate the flanks of the camels in the Yomut Turkmen wedding procession, they usually formed part of the brides dowry and were woven in pairs.
The weave is very fine and the asmalyk has a soft floppy handle.
The asmalyk is in good condition with even wear and medium pile.
The asmalyk has been hand washed and is ready for display.
