a matched pair of fringed Tibetan carpets of a somewhat uncommon central design. That is, while the main motif of the center field could be construed as symbolically representing a double dorje, it is then enclosed by a ‘lattice’ or ‘trellis-like’ design, the likes if which, while not “rare”, is not commonly seen. The outer border features the ‘Greek t’ design, while the larger of the secondary borders feature the tigma (cross) design much beloved by Tibetans. However, while both carpets have cotton warp, one has animal hair for weft, while the other has a mix of animal hair and wool weft, and both carpets are mix of natural and synthetic dyes. The naturally dyed fringed borders are intact and complete, and beautifully abrashed – as are both carpets, one much more so than the other - and are about 8cm/3in +/- long. Rare in the sense that finding matched pairs has become increasingly difficult. Circa 1930 and sizes approximate 72cm/28in x 128cm/50in. Both in excellent condition.
