Antique Apache burden basket, Native American,19thC, hand woven, hand twined with willow, black devil's claw, the redish-brown seen on the inside but faded on the outside, is probably yucca root, the rim has an it's original metal wire reinforcement for heavy work, the hide straps and fringe are colored yellow, the bottom is reinforced with black fabric and hide colored yellow, this is an item that was made for use and used hard, it is not something made for sale, misshapen from use, some weak areas, no major holes or splits, brittle hide, missing hide, soiling, faded color, separation along the rim, a beautiful example of an ethnographic Native American object, the approximate size is 15 inches across at the top, and 12 inches deep at the widest spot, although it is not very heavy, it needs a large box for shipping securely, and the shipping cost is based on dimensional weight plus insurance
