This is a rare and well preserved Kalardasht rug from the Elburz Mountains in the north east Iran. The production of Kaladascht is very limited with hardly any coming out of the region of the late 30-40 years. The rug feature several zoomorphic motifs set around the central medallion which in itself may be viewed as a zoomorphic symbol at it resemble the geometric representation of a tortoise. Note the lovely 3-dimensional effect achieved over the years with the red wool corroding to appear`flat in and around the indigo-colored wool which retained its original height. Age: around 70-80 years Measurements: ca 150x105cm Material: wool on cotton
