The weavers from western Afghanistan are an ethnically diverse group, seemingly dominated by those who weave in the “Baluch style”.

They seem to be diverse groups whose primary or mother tongue may be a ‘turkic’ language. The palette of this weaving suggests one made circa 1900, consisting of all natural dyes of a certain hue.

The soft aubergine and softer reds are trademark features of this group. The condition of this weaving is good, with no holes or repair.

The bag face originally had a flat woven back and was probably used as a storage bag of some sort in the lives of these tribal peoples from the hinterlands of western Afghanistan.
