Ghostly border fragment with cloudbands and cartouches from a circa 1500 nw Persian carpet,either Aq Quyunlu (pre-Safavid) or Shah Ismail period. This is most likely from an early Tabriz area medallion carpet of which there are perhaps four known examples(Boston, Paris, Florence, Milan). Asymmetrical knot,cotton warp, wool weft.
